Guangzhou Has Its First Full-time Professional Social Workers

 
The Yang-guang (Sunlight) Office of Social Work, the first non-governmental body of its kind in Guangzhou, was set up yesterday. It boasts the first professional social-work team in this South China city.

昨日，广州首个民间社工站--阳光社工站正式成立。自此，这座华南大都市首次拥有了专业社工队伍。

The office is based in the Jianshe Community, to which the Garden Hotel belong.

The office is co-established by the Yuexiu District Bureau of Civil Affairs, the community, and the Yang-guang Social Work Service, and operates on the fund of 200 thousand Yuan (29 thousand USD) by local government.

该站位于花园酒店所属的建设街社区，由越秀区民政局与建设街道办事处、广州阳光社会工作事务中心三方共建，政府贴20万元维持社工站运作。

The office has four full-time professional workers who work 7 days a week in rotation, guided by the social-work professors of the Guangdong University of Technology.

工作站内有4名专业社工，周一到周日轮值上班, 由广东工业大学社会工作系教授任督导。

"The professional service of social work makes up for the lack of community service as the community offices are too busy with administration to provide at present," an official of the Yuexiu District Government said.

"社区居委会被大量行政事务缠身，通过社工专业的服务，可弥补居委会服务的不足。"越秀区一位负责人说道。
