Discover Asia – The 7th Guangdong Modern Dance Festival 2010

The 7th Modern Dance Festival will be held in Guangzhou from July 24th to 30th this year with a focus on Asian companies. Since its inauguration in 2004, the Guangdong Modern Dance Festival has gained national and even international recognition as the most important modern dance platform in Chinese mainland.
In recent years, Asia has been gaining recognition for its important role in global economic and political development. Asia is becoming an indispensable part of the contemporary world and the festival's curators thought it was time to discover the contemporary vocabulary of Asian dance artists who have been too often overlooked or pigeonholed as simply "oriental." Under the theme of "Discover Asia," the upcoming festival will bring together several hundred Asian artists from Japan, Korea, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Israel, and North America as well as Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan in an attempt to discover our own Asian dance idioms through 7 days of master classes and performances.
