In January 2008, Belgium artist Denis Deprez was invited by Art64 Gallery and the Belgium Consulate in Guangzhou to hold the first exhibition of a Belgium artist in Guangzhou. This August, Denis Deprez shall return to the flower city with a new exhibition about memories and the way we relate to the past.

Denis Deprez explains the theme

For several years, one question has always appeared in my paintings, what makes me to use a painbrush instead of a camera to catch and portray life. As time goes by, I've started to find an answer to this question of painting or photography. When I have a blank sheet of paper, I am able to renew the scenery, to give a new existence to what has happened just a few days ago or a year ago. Time in painting is flexible whereas in photography it is the opposite. Photography is an action in time. It cannot change time for me. I cannot come back to the same place and take the same photo.

This time I want to express the perfect conformity of painting and memory by using the internet. This time I provide a special hypernarration, becoming a sort of memorial website.

Note:

On August 15 from 10:30 to 12:00, the artist shall hold a conference during which he shall introduce his work and opinions on art. In the afternoon, from 14:30 to 16:00, the artist shall other works including a new book from his friend Vincent Fortemps named "Par Les Sillons."
